Ageing is a natural part of life. How many of you yearned to grow up fast back when you were younger? I’m sure many of us do. However, now that we have become older, we want to return to our youthful selves and wish for things to go back to the way they were. But why is this so? Many of us tend to develop negative misconceptions about ageing where we assume that as we grow older, we eventually become more restricted in everyday activities that we used to enjoy doing. It is normal to worry about these challenges, but you definitely should not be putting yourself down with your age.
Everyone ages differently and you can choose to do so gracefully. Forget about age. There is not one thing you can do to reverse it, but there are certainly things you can do to embrace the new changes that come along the way!
1. Stay Active
You may have already read about our other blogposts where we constantly mention about the benefits of staying fit and this cannot be any more true. Whether you are hitting the 40s, 50s, or 60s, proper exercising will bound to keep your body staying physically healthy and youthful.
However, it is important to take note that as one ages, your usual workout routine may not serve the same benefits as before. It is inevitable to experience gradual loss in muscle strength and mass or declining performance in the heart, lungs or joints. As a result, one may become more susceptible to physical injuries. Therefore, we should adjust our exercising activities accordingly to make sure that we prioritise on maintaining muscle and joint flexibility as well as sustaining bone density and health. 2. Diversify Your Hobbies
It is highly encouraged that you find new and meaningful hobbies that you can indulge in from time to time. Have you neglected some of your favourite leisure activities back when you were younger? It is never too late to engage in those activities. It can be going for a travel, watching a movie, taking up an instrument, or anything, really! You will be surprised at how these simple yet enjoyable hobbies can help with developing positive mindsets and boosting your emotional well-being.
3. Reconnect with Loved Ones
Maintaining a strong social network is important to protect our mental and physical health and longevity, especially in this era of COVID-19. However, with the ongoing stay-at-home policies, it has certainly become more difficult for all of us to stay connected to our friends and families. It is recommended to reach out to your circle of friends on a regular basis via social media tools such as Zoom, Facebook or Instagram. These little moments can work as an effective mood-booster!
4. Adventure
It is no news that being in the outdoors and receiving our daily dose of sunshine vitamin can be beneficial to our physical and emotional well-being. Therefore, it is recommended that you make it a habit of getting outdoors for an hour or so and at least once in 2 days. Go out for small walks in between your break times and I can assure that you will be feeling much more refreshed and motivated for the rest of the day.
5. Be Alert of Red Flags
As we age, our body does experience wear and tear and there may come times where we cannot avoid deterioration in our health. Therefore, we should not take any forms of ailments lightly.
