Overseas expansion is always on our minds because the local market is small. The business originally started with Singapore and Malaysia as one unified market in the 50’s and 60’s as there were few restrictions to trans-border business flows in those days. As the company became more developed, we looked to grow the market into regions and countries further away, such as Hong Kong in the late 70’s and China in the 80’s when it was still a closed country, having obtained the required permit to sell in China. Advertisements on buses and newspapers were put up to create awareness of the Double Prawn products in Hong Kong in the 80s.
